Yamaneko Lodge.

A traditional Japanese mountain lodge beside a stream in Shirotori, Gujo, Gifu. An old wooden home restored for modern comfort, its character intact.

Two tatami rooms and a western bedroom sleep up to nine, named for the people who lived by these mountains: Kikori the woodcutter, Yamabushi the mountain ascetic, and Matagi the winter hunter. Book the whole lodge or a single room. Ski slopes are about 25 minutes away, an onsen about 10. Pets are welcome.

Liam and Marisa live on site. The house is open year round, from powder days in winter to Gujo Odori in summer and the maples around Gujo-Hachiman in autumn.
